This trekking excursion will take you to Tangkoko National Park Jungle Reserve. In only about 40 minutes our boat will take you to Batuangus Beach where you get off to climb to Mount Tangkoko (1500 m). The dense virgin jungle hosts some animal species unique to North Sulawesi as the macaca nigra and the tarsier spectrum which has become known as 'the smallest primate in the world'. As you make your way through lush jungle forest you will hear and probably see the red knobbed hornbill or encounter the maleo which is a megapode bird laying large eggs in huge hatching mounds it builds in the black sand. You might also encounter a cuscus which is a relative of the Australian Koala bear. A ranger will accompany you all along the way up to the top of Tangkoko mountain. In the late afternoon you will return to Pulisan Jungle Beach Resort. Alternatively you can have an easier three hour trekking in the lowland jungle and then spend some time snorkeling and swimming at the black sand beach of Tangkoko.
